Punta Cana Excursions by Grand Bay started as a PADI dive center and grew into a curated tour marketplace — run by a small local team that's been operating in the Dominican Republic for years. Here's how we got here, what we believe, and what makes us different from the resort tour desk.
Our story
Grand Bay started in 2018 as a PADI-certified dive center in Cabeza de Toro, on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic. The original idea was simple: run honest, safety-first dive trips for travelers who wanted to see Punta Cana's reefs and wrecks without going through their resort. No commissions to the hotel concierge, no overcrowded boats, no upselling. Just diving, done right.
Over time, our guests kept asking the same question: "Who do you recommend for the catamaran day?" Or the zip line. Or the Saona Island trip. We started keeping a mental list of the operators we trusted — the captains who showed up on time, the guides who actually spoke English well, the routes that avoided the worst of the tourist crowds. That mental list eventually became this site.
Punta Cana Excursions by Grand Bay is the marketplace version of those recommendations. Every operator we list is one we've personally worked with or vetted. Every tour is one we'd send our own families on. And our dive center — Grand Bay of the Sea — still runs as the parent operation, handling all of our scuba diving courses and trips. This site is what happens when a dive shop pays attention long enough to know who else in town does excellent work.

What we believe
We're a small team in a tourism market full of large operators, hotel commissions, and pressure to upsell. Staying small is a choice. So is everything else we do.
We don't list every excursion in Punta Cana. We list the ones we've personally tested, where we know the captain by name, and where the experience holds up after the photos are taken. If an operator drops their standards, they come off the list. The "curated" part isn't marketing language — it's the entire reason this site exists.
The price on our site is the price you pay. No commissions added on top, no resort markup, no surprise fees at pickup. Our deposit structure is built so you can lock in your spot without committing to the full amount upfront — and your deposit is fully refundable if you cancel at least 48 hours in advance.

For dive operations specifically, our PADI dive center is based in Cabeza de Toro, with boats running daily to the local reefs and wrecks, and full-day trips to Catalina Island and Bayahibe. Course logistics, pickup schedules, and dive site selection are all coordinated by our team the day before each excursion.
