Located on the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic, the charming village of Bayahibe has become one of the country's top spots for scuba diving. With calm seas, warm waters, and easy access to dozens of reef and wreck dive sites, it's an ideal destination for divers of all levels. Most dive sites are just minutes offshore, and the nearby protected waters of Saona Island offer gentle conditions with little to no current year-round.
Just half a mile off the coast of Dominicus lies the impressive St. George shipwreck, a 73-meter (240-ft) cargo ship originally built in 1962 in Scotland. Once used to transport wheat and barley between Europe and the Caribbean, the ship was intentionally sunk in 1999 to create an artificial reef. Today she rests at 40 meters (131 ft) and has become a thriving marine habitat. You'll find barracudas, groupers, moray eels, and king mackerels cruising through her shadowy corridors and steel structure. This site is best suited for advanced divers due to its depth and complexity.
After hotel pickup we drive about 40 minutes to Bayahibe and board the dive boat. Two tanks are included, with the second dive typically at a shallower local reef or wreck site to complete a full dive day. You'll be guided by experienced PADI professionals who know every site in the area.
Bayahibe diving conditions are among the best in the Caribbean, with excellent visibility, warm temperatures, and minimal currents throughout the year. Whether you're a beginner looking for an easy reef dive or an experienced diver seeking the St. George wreck, Bayahibe offers something for everyone.
Beyond the diving, Bayahibe itself is worth the visit — a charming fishing village with colorful houses, friendly locals, and a relaxed Dominican atmosphere. It's the perfect setting to end your diving adventure with a fresh seafood lunch or a stroll along the waterfront.
