Our diving heritage
Grand Bay's connection to the water goes back to the beginning. Before launching this excursions marketplace, our team spent more than a decade running one of Punta Cana's most established PADI dive centers — from Cabeza de Toro out to the reefs of Bávaro, Cap Cana, and the offshore wrecks of Bayahibe.
That hands-on experience means we know every reef, every current, and every hidden spot worth visiting. Whether you're a certified diver looking for your next wreck dive or a first-time snorkeler wanting a safe, guided introduction to the Caribbean — we've been there, taught that, and built our reputation on it.
All dive courses and certified-diver trips on this page are operated by Grand Bay Dive Center, our parent company. You can preview every course and trip here on this page, then book directly through Grand Bay's dedicated booking system — secure, PADI-affiliated, and managed by the same team you'll meet at the dive shop.

Why Punta Cana
Punta Cana sits at the meeting point of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, which gives divers something rare: dramatic underwater terrain on both coasts in a single trip. The Caribbean side offers calm, warm water and vibrant coral gardens perfect for beginners and reef enthusiasts. The Atlantic side offers steeper walls, stronger currents, and the famous wrecks that draw experienced divers from across the world.
Water temperatures stay between 26-29°C (78-84°F) year-round, with visibility typically running 20-30 meters on calm days. The reef ecosystem includes more than 30 species of hard and soft corals, schools of grouper and snapper, sea turtles, eagle rays, and — at specific sites like Shark Point — nurse sharks, blacktip reef sharks, and the occasional hammerhead. The St. George wreck off Bayahibe is consistently ranked among the top wreck dives in the Caribbean.
The best diving conditions run from December through April, when winds are calmest and visibility is best. May through November still offers excellent diving most days, with occasional weather windows around hurricane season. Most courses and dive trips run year-round, with weather-related rescheduling at no cost when conditions are unsafe.
From beginner to pro
Whether you're trying scuba diving for the first time or earning your next certification, our PADI courses cover every level — from a two-hour intro dive to advanced specialties. All courses are run by certified PADI instructors with at least five years of teaching experience in Dominican waters.
PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) is the world's most recognized scuba certification organization, with credentials accepted at dive sites worldwide. Earning your PADI certification in Punta Cana means you'll be certified to dive anywhere in the world for life — and the warm, calm water here makes it one of the most comfortable places on earth to learn. No prior experience is needed for entry-level courses.

Diving in Punta Cana
Honest answers for first-time divers, certified divers visiting Punta Cana, and anyone weighing a course on vacation.
You need to be comfortable in the water and able to swim 200 meters without stopping (any stroke) and float on your back for 10 minutes. You don't need to be a strong swimmer — just water-confident. If you're unsure, the Discover Scuba Diving experience is a guided dive in shallow water where the instructor handles all the technical bits and you focus on breathing underwater.
Punta Cana is one of the best places in the world to learn scuba diving. The water is warm year-round (26-29°C), visibility is consistently good, currents on most reef sites are mild, and the entry-level reef sites are gentle and well-suited for new divers. PADI certifications earned in Punta Cana are recognized globally for life.
Discover Scuba Diving is a one-time guided experience — about 2.5 hours total — that lets you breathe underwater and complete one supervised dive to about 6 meters. It does not certify you. The PADI Open Water course is three days of theory, skills, and four open-water dives that result in a worldwide certification valid for life. If you're curious, try Discover. If you know you'll dive again, do Open Water and skip the intro.
Yes — and we strongly recommend a refresher dive first if it's been more than a year since your last dive. The PADI ReActivate program covers skill refreshers, gear familiarization, and one or two confined-water sessions before you head to the reef. It's not expensive, and it turns a stressful first day back into a confident one.
December through April offers the calmest seas, best visibility, and most predictable conditions. May through November is still excellent diving most days, with warmer water and occasional weather days during hurricane season (August-October being the most variable). We monitor conditions daily and reschedule dives without charge if it's unsafe.
No. Full rental equipment is available for all courses and trips — BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, masks, and fins. Equipment is serviced every six months and replaced regularly. If you prefer your own gear, you're welcome to bring it (mask and fins at minimum is what most certified divers bring). Tanks and weights are always included.
Discover Scuba (no certification) starts at $100 for one dive. Full PADI Open Water certification is around $470 for three days including all equipment. Certified-diver day trips run from $125 (local two-tank dive) to $220 (full-day Catalina or Saona Island). All prices include tanks, weights, certified guides, and hotel pickup for most trips.
